Vacancy Notice: Fixed-Term Locally hired Consular Services Assistant

Embassy of Finland in Bangkok is looking for Fixed-Term Locally hired Consular Services Assistant to join their team from 1st of March 2024 or as per agreement.

The Embassy of Finland is the official representative of the Finnish Government in Thailand and Cambodia. Consular services are one of the focus areas of the Embassy and the Consular team in Bangkok is one of the busiest diplomatic missions in this field among the Finnish embassies worldwide.

We are seeking to recruit a multi-skilled team player with good computer skills, a native Thai speaker with good skills written and spoken English. Strong stress management skills as well as high integrity, professional attitude, open-mindedness with professional working methods are highly valued. Understanding and sharing the values of working in different culture, especially when interacting with Finnish citizens in distress in Thailand and Cambodia is essential.

Your tasks:

  • Daily assistance in supporting consular services.
  • Consular assistance related communication with local authorities (Thai/ English)
  • Participation in translation (English-Thai-English) and interpretation of Finns in distress in Thailand and Cambodia e.g. repatriation, hospitalizations, criminal or court matters etc.
  • Assisting in Thai-English customer service incl. information and guidance, direct customer service
  • Unofficial translations of official documents (Thai-English-Thai) for internal use
  • Follow-up of possible court cases and other pending consular assistance cases.
  • Contribution to other consular team activities
  • Assisting in tasks related to the Immigration team, if needed.
  • Other tasks assigned by Head of Mission.

 

What we expect:

  • Native Thai speaker with good proficiency in both written and spoken English.
  • Relevant educational level e.g. bachelor’s degree or similar administrative qualifications and relevant working experience.
  • Strong stress management skills with a high sense of integrity and responsibility.
  • An open-minded, positive and result-oriented approach to work with good customer service skills.
  • Great team player and interpersonal skills to work in a sharing and learning from colleagues team environment.
  • Adaptability in working for a foreign employer.
  • Possibility to work occasionally after/before officer hours and on weekends if/when necessary.
  • Experience of similar duties considered an advantage.

Additional information

The position is fixed-term for locally hired consular service assistant for the period of two years with a renewal possibility. The agreement is subject to a probation period of 4 months. The consular service assistant will be employed with local Thai labor law prevailing

A personnel security clearance may be obtained for the applicant with his or her consent (Finnish Security Clearance Act 726/2014).
