Women in Asia and the Pacific: A Photographic Journey - Exhibition

In celebration of the International Women’s Day on 8th of March 2024 and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Thailand, the Embassy of Finland in Bangkok and UN Women are jointly organizing a photographic journey: Women in Asia and The Pacific. This exhibition is displayed at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Center from 12th to 24th of March 2024 as well as at the UN Conference Center in Bangkok till 15th of March 2024 to highlight women’s role across four decades in South East Asia.

This exhibition showcases the pivotal role of women in Asia, highlighting their strength, diversity, and impact. Finland, a global leader in gender equality since becoming the first nation to grant women full political rights in 1907, continues to champion the rights and empowerment of women and girls worldwide.

The exhibit features the compelling work of Rauli Virtanen, a celebrated Finnish photojournalist whose career spans wars, conflicts, and significant global events. Virtanen's journey through all 193 UN member countries has culminated in a body of work that not only captures the essence of human struggle and resilience but also celebrates the spirit and diversity of women across Asia.

Awarded the Golden Venla in 2024 for his lifetime achievements, Virtanen's photography offers a unique lens on the challenges and triumphs of women, inviting viewers to reflect on our shared humanity and the universal quest for dignity and rights.
